Where the money goes

Every dollar funds direct work. We have no paid administrative staff, no rented office, no fundraising contractor. The categories below describe roughly how recent year's expenditures have broken down.

UXO clearance operations

Wages for Lao deminers, vehicle leases, fuel, TNT, drinking water, and medical supplies for clearance teams working in Khammuan, Sekong, and Phongsali Provinces. The single largest expense category.

Lao Mountain Coffee

Cost of green coffee beans purchased directly from farming families whose land we have cleared, plus US roasting and shipping. Roughly half of annual revenue is generated by coffee sales โ€” a circular model where cleared land becomes a cash crop that funds the next year's clearance.

Book Box libraries

More than forty rural Lao elementary schools have received their first libraries through this program. Each Book Box is constructed by the Lao National Library and contains 200 Lao-language children's titles.

Medical care & surgery

Surgery and prosthetics for amputees, cleft-palate surgery, treatment for victims of Noma, transport to clinics for villagers who cannot access care locally, and donated medical supplies to rural Lao hospitals.

Cultural & refugee programs

Hmong elder support and community gardens in Wausau, Wisconsin; school lyceums; the museum-quality artifact collection; oral histories with refugee families.

Administrative overhead

Bank fees, payment processing, and a small annual filing fee. There is no compensated staff. Travel costs to and from Laos are paid personally by Jim and Marty Harris, not by the nonprofit.
